What are the Best Screws for Woodworking? The DAB Team have spoken

Our team pick the most reliable woodscrews

The humble woodscrew is the unsung hero of every workshop. A rounded screw at the wrong moment have prompted many joiners to scream 'screw it' and its usually your most expensive tools which get thrown to the floor. These bad boys will guarantee minimal problems and help your production run smoothly.

1. Spax Wirox Woodscrews

German engineering, enough said. Self-drilling, corrosion-resistant, sharp, solid head. What's not to love? They feed into wood as if it were lubricated and these screws are the number one choice for the DAB workshop. They are used for all kinds of projects and if it wasn't for the higher price it would probably be the end for most screw suppliers.

2. Timberlock Heavy-Duty Wood Screws

If Spax are out of stock, we go straight for these babies. Timberlocks are a fine brand, respected throughout for their high quality. Some of our team actually prefer these to Spax screws as their is no need to pre-drill with some materials.

3. Reisser Cutter Screws

Reisser Cutter screws are quite specialised. They are designed to feed through wood without splitting the timber. This is partially because they are already lubricated and also because of the unique design of the screw. Not much of a universal screw but definitely the best at what it does.

4. Kreg Pocket-Hole Screws

For pocket-hole joinery lovers these are a dream. They have incredible grip and are perfect for seamless joints. Staying put is critical, especially where safety is concerned like with roofing, studs or even a simple chair leg.

5. ForgeFix Multi-Purpose Screws

A budget-friendly all-rounder that we have no shame in using here at DAB. Everybody keeps a few boxes in their van due to the multi-purpose qualities. Hardwood, softwood or sheet material, this screw excels in professional surrounds so for a regular DIY man this is probably the best choice all round. Available in multi-packs with various sizes included. Buy a pack and stick it in your garage. You wont regret it.

As always, hunt around for best prices. Amazon usually do the best deals but occasionally Cheapscrews or Tradefix Direct do amazing deals too.
