How DAB Turns Great Furniture Into Potent Listings
Here at DAB Chic & Vintage, every piece we build tells a story. Whether it’s a rustic toy chest or farmhouse table. To make sure our customers can see what they are buying, we we do all we can to ensure we capture great photographs of our creations.
Here we will walk you through the stages which every product goes through as we turn the into listings for our online shop
Design & Build
The first step is perhaps the most important. The idea. After researching what potential customers are looking for, we design the piece using old school methods, pen and pad. We take our time building and polishing the furniture piece, making sure its looking fresh and shining ready for its moment under the lights.
We Pay Our Friends At Firebird Photography A Visit
This part of the journey involves a lot of lifting. The furniture is loaded ready to transport and unload at the studio. Our talented partners at Firebird Photography prepare the studio and set the scene. These guys are professional photographers who specialize in furniture photography, using a variety of methods and impressive technology they take their time to position the lighting and maneuverer the furniture to capture the perfect shots. Here are some of the techniques used to capture these incredible images.
Lighting: Softbox lights create even lighting, eliminating harsh shadows and highlighting the furniture's characteristics, colours and details with a mix of key, fill, and backlighting.
Angles: The photographers capture the furniture from various all angles. They work to show off every detail, from close ups to full scale and aerial views.
Backgrounds: Simple, neutral-coloured backgrounds keep the focus on the furniture, a white backdrop works great and gives the impression the furniture is breaking through the background, highlighting the natural wood colours.
Depth of Field: A shallow depth of field creates a soft background blur, keeping focus on the furniture and creating a high-end, professional image.
Detail: Using what I imagine is very expensive equipment, high-quality lenses capture finer details like wood grain and knots. The technology used enabled the photographer to capture the incredible colours which is what makes real wooden furniture special.
Processing and Image Editing
Once the studio team have worked their magic with the cameras. Its onto the real geeky stuff. They take their time to edit each individual image to ensure they are sharp, clear and free from any imperfections. The process involves the following steps.
Removing Shadows: In some images unwanted shadows may appear on the furniture. These are removed or softened so that there are no distractions, allowing the furniture to look consistent and stand proud from the white backdrop.
Colour Correction: Its important the the colours are accurate and true to life. If necessary, the editors adjust the contrast and saturation to make sure the product looks exactly as it does live.
Enhancing Details: The editor use editing software to sharpen the images, bringing out the finer details of the furniture. Sometimes a stray piece of sawdust or packaging may be picked up by the high resolution camera, the team remove these with ease using clever editing tools.
Listing Our New Furniture Products
Once the images are perfected, we prepare to show them to the world. We upload the final photos to our platforms such as Shopify, Google and Etsy, where our products are on sale. Listing products includes writing detailed descriptions and titles, creating variations and allocating prices to the various sizes. Perfecting SEO's is very important to search engines so we take our time to make our listings as SEO friendly as possible, making sure key words and meta content is optimised to generate as much traffic as possible. Last but not least, our beautiful images get added to the listing, completing the process of creating online furniture products.
