Creating A Live Edge Oak Dining Table

One of our latest commissions was one we enjoyed thoroughly. A stunning live edge oak dining table, complete with black hairpin steel legs. Here we discuss out journey from sourcing the wood, crafting and delivery to its new home.

Sourcing the live edge Oak

We began by carefully selecting the perfect slab of oak. All of our suppliers are official distributers of sustainably sourced wood, which aligns with our feelings towards sustainability. Luckily we were spoiled for choice, choosing a solid oak slab with a rich grain and a perfect live outside edge. Waney, but not too waney were the customers instructions.

Craft Process

Back at our Cheshire workshop, things got real. The first stage involved using a plastic chisel to remove any debris from the lumbar's outer edge, being careful not to disfigure the beautiful trim. Next step was to carefully plane, sand and curate the surface, buffing out the wood's natural character and ensuring a fine flush finish.

the treatment process involved applying a high-end, protective oil finish to highlight the grain and protect against against ageing. This not only deepens the warm hues of the oak and prevents decay, it also give long-term against stains.

Black Steel Legs

We selected black powder-coated hairpin legs to marry with the elite oak top. The steel legs are a modern touch with stability and durability guaranteed. Each leg is to be carefully secured to the top using industrial coach screws, fed into pre-drilled holes.

Prep & Delivery

Before packaging, we completed a quality control inspection to ensure there were no blemishes or weaknesses. After the final polish, we shrink wrapped the fabulous piece and then added industrial packaging to ensure safe transportation. Our delivery process is always on point, making sure each piece of furniture arrives in tip-top condition and is ready for its new destination.
