What The Hell is a Set Square and why is it used in Carpentry & Joinery?
We love our set squares, also known as just 'square'. Partially because its so simple and small, and partly because how how damn useful it is. You will find that you use this on pretty much every job. It specialises in making accurate, clean joints. From a joiners perspective, I can imagine a day at work without one, it would be a long hard day.
What's a Set square?
A set square tool is a triangular piece of hard material (wood, steel, aluminium or plastic) used to draw and/or check angles, usually a 90° angle. I is small and light and will come in handy for things you wouldn't expect. A try square is used for checking 90° angles on wooden joints. A speed square is a multipurpose tool with a ruler, protractor and try square all in one unit. A combination square is adjustable and can measure a range of depths and angles.
